Yell County man remains jailed on Felony First Degree Murder charge in death of child

A 20-year old Yell County man remains jailed on a $1,000,000 cash bond in the death of Remington Rainey of Plainview.

Chase Duane Mullins of Plainview, who was the boyfriend of the victim’s mother, called Yell County 911 on Thursday, November 29, 2018, and reported that he had discovered the child in the child’s bedroom and that he was not breathing.

Authorities said Mullins reported that he was the only adult at the residence when the child was discovered, and that the child’s mother was at work at the time.

Deputies responded along with Yell County EMS, and that EMS transported the child to Chambers Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Sheriff’s investigators were notified and conducted several interviews and obtained a search warrant for the residence to search for evidence that night.

The child’s body was submitted to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner and that the preliminary results of the autopsy indicate that the child died from blunt force trauma to the head and the manner of death was listed as a homicide.

Mullins was taken into custody the first week of December. He faces a charge of Murder in the First Degree, which was filed on December 7.

Mullins was already facing drug charges for possessions of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia that were filed in September. He was also the subject of a December Orider of Protection by a 21-year old woman who said he had thrown her to the ground and threatened to kill her.

The Petition for Order of Protection can be viewed HERE.

Mullins is currently incarcerated at the Yell County Detention Facility in Danville and awaits a January 3, 2019, court appearance in Yell County Circuit Court./
