For the second time in just over eighteen months, the Deputy City Manager for the City of Fort Smith was being considered as a finalist for a city manager job in a Kansas city.
Jeff Dingman was a finalist along with Interim City Manager Mike Schrage for the position in the Saline County, Kansas city of approximately 50,0000.
However, the job was awarded to Schrage earlier today by the city commission.
Dingman, who has served Fort Smith for more than seven years, also was the city administrator in Baldwin City, Kansas for nearly eight years and was assistant county administrator in Sebastian County for four years before taking a Fort Smith job under then City Administrator Ray Gosick in 2011.
He was the acting City Administrator for ten months before the hiring of Carl Gefken by the Fort Smith Board of Directors. Dingman had applied for Fort Smith’s top position, after Gosack’s medically-related retirement in August 2015, but the city’s Board of Directors chose to hire Geffken for the job in a 5-2 decision.
Dingman was also one of five finalist for a similar position in Topeka, Kansas in July of 2017.
