FSPD in process of taking applications for potential patrol officers

Fort Smith Police on Tuesday (Jan. 22) opened their application process to new recruits in hopes of filling approximately 20 open Patrol Officer positions throughout 2019.

Starting pay for Patrol Officers of the Fort Smith Police Department will be $37,440 annually, with a host of benefits and advancement opportunities available.

Some of these benefits include a language incentive; educational incentives at 3%, 6%, and 7% of base salary for associate's, bachelor's, and master's degrees, respectively; and three weeks paid vacation each year with 160 hours of sick leave. Health, dental, vision, and life insurance packages are also available.

There will be a fully-paid, 13-week Academy held locally at the Fort Smith Police Training Center. No previous law enforcement experience is necessary. To be considered, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be 21 years of age

  • Hold a valid driver's license

  • Attain a high school diploma or GED

  • Have no felony convictions

  • Be a US Citizen
