According to a news release by the city of Fort Smith,a special meeting of the Fort Smith Board of Directors has been called for Thursday, March 28 at 6:30 p.m. to conduct interviews of the six candidates that have shown interest in being appointed to fill out the unexpired term of departed board member Mike Lorenz.
According to an inside source, just because the interviews are being conducted does not mean that one of the six referenced will be selected or even that an appointment will be made. At the last BOD meeting the body reserved the right to make that decision at the next regularly scheduled in April.
The board could also announce at that time that they are calling for a special election to fill the slot . The term for the position will expire in 2020.
