ADC: Death toll rises to 36 in Arkansas flu cases

Officials with the Arkansas Department of Health say a child has died, along with two others, as a result of an outbreak of the flu in the Natural State, bringing the total of confirmed deaths to 36 as flu season continues and new fears spread.

ADH states there have been nearly 17,000 positive flu tests reported to the database since September of 2019 with nearly 3,000 new confirmed cases being reported last week alone. As the number of dismissed schools rises, two more Little Rock school districts closed for the remainder of this week due to widespread concerns over the spread of the virus.

Cabot Public Schools has also closed.

ADH says 19 of the deceased flu victims are older than 65 years of age. Eleven victims are between the ages of 45 and 64, while five more were between the ages of 25 and 44. Only one case between the ages of five and 18.

If you begin to display flu-like symptoms, please report to your nearest healthcare facility immediately.
