Arkansas Supreme Court upholds double murder conviction for Russellville salvage yard owner

The Arkansas Supreme Court this past week upheld the capital murder convictions of an Russellville man serving life in prison for the deaths of two men whose bodies were found inside a crushed vehicle at a salvage yard owned by his family.

Tyler Barefield was found guilty and sentenced to double life without parole in 2017 for the slayings of Aaron Brock and Beau DeWitt.

Barefield's attorneys had argued the lower court should have allowed evidence that they argued would have backed up his defense that the men were slain by someone else.

Barefield, 36 at the time, was convicted on November 1st of 2017 on two counts of capital murder, in the 2016 shooting-crushing deaths of the two men.

According to authorities, Barefield planned the murders in retaliation for numerous break-ins in the area, that he believed were believed were committed by Dewitt and Brock.

Court documents showed the two men had been shot and placed inside a vehicle. Once inside, Barefield then crushed the vehicle at a local salvage yard. When questioned by police, Barefield stated he wanted to "put a stop to" the reoccurring break-ins.

Barefield is serving his sentence at the Varner Super Max facility in Gould.
