ASP identifies woman who was struck, killed by vehicle as she fled police on foot in Fayetteville
A 33-year-old woman who bolted and ran from officers and was struck and killed on Fulbright Expressway during a welfare check on Monday has been identified by the Arkansas State Police as Brittany Butler of Bella Vista.
Police officials say officers were working a welfare check near a wooded area area close to the intersection of North Gregg and Swallow just after 6 p.m. on Monday. The officers had been dispatched to check on a report of people living in a tent next to the active roadway and Butler fled the scene on foot.
She ran into oncoming traffic and was struck and killed by an eastbound 2001 Mitsubishi. She was was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was taken to the Washington County Coroner's Office.
Reporting ASP trooper Taylor Elkins said the weather was clear and the roadway was dry at the time of the accident.
