ASP Report: Alcohol a factor in pedestrian death of Bentonville man Wednesday on I-49
A 46-year old Bentonville man died on Wednesday as the result of an alcohol -related accident that involved three vehicles and a pedestrian.
Police say Rick Schwellinger was killed near mile marker 78 of the southbound lands of I-49 on Wednesday when he was standing alongside one of two cars stopped beside the roadway and a 2006 Chrysler swerved off the highway and struck the two cars, a 2015 Dodge and a 2005 Toyota.
The vehicles then hit Schwellinger, result in his death from the resultant injuries.
The driver of the Chrysler, identified as 31-year old Randy Perea, was later arrested and faces possible charges of negligent homicide, leaving the scene of personal injury accident, driving while intoxicated and reckless driving with injury or death at an October 7 court date.
ASP Trooper Taylor Elkins investigated the wreck and said the weather was clear and road conditions were dry at the time of the accident.
