Company fined in Heavener for water misconduct once again in hot water for falsifying data
Veolia North America, a water utility that was fined in access of $3 million dollars for falsifying information about their Heavener water treatment facility for years, is back in the news again.
The Manager of the El Reno Wastewater treatment plant in Canadian County is accused of fixing the test results coming from the plant so they would show no bacteria in their water.
A worker at the plant reached out to the Department of Environmental Quality after the plant manager, who works for Veolia North America, told them they needed to "cook the books".
According to court documents, Fulton would dilute samples with deionized water and add bleach to samples in order to kill E. Coli bacteria, the purpose of doing this is so the plant stays within permit limits for the bacteria.
State Rep. Lundy Kiger (R-Poteau) commented last week on Veolia being charged again with falsifying water data.
“After several months of citizen complaints, investigations and inspections by the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality that resulted in a $3 million fine for Veolia in Heavener, Oklahoma. Veolia is once again charged with alleged falsification of water data,” Kiger said. “Waste water samples with E. coli was found to have bleach added to the samples in an effort to get rid of E. coli bacteria. The water with bleach was then released into the North Canadian River.”
“This is the same type of situation we’ve seen with Veolia not just in Heavener, but in many other places around the United States and now in another Oklahoma town,” Kiger said
Kiger said he’s reporting this new action by Veolia to the people in District 3 in hopes of helping to spread the word of the continued misconduct of Veolia and how bad this company really is for Oklahoma."
