Death penalty sought for Hot Springs cop killer



Kayvon Moshawn Daking Ward, 21, and Coriana Hernandez, 20, have been arrested and charged in connection with the death of Hot Springs Police Officer Brent Scrimshire.


Wanted in another shooting, and still recovering from bullet wounds in a local hospital, Ward allegedly initiated a confrontation with Officer Scrimshire, resulting in shots fired. Scrimshire later died from his wounds.


Hernandez has been charged as an accomplice to capital murder and with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. Both offenses are punishable by up to life in prison.


Ward is charged with Capital Murder with a felony firearm enhancement, carrying a life or death sentence. He is also charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, and possession of a defaced firearm, both carrying penalties of up-to life in prison.
