FBI says Fort Smith child rapist may have fled to Mexico to avoid prosecution in 2004


Jose Antonio Barroso is wanted for his alleged involvement in the rape of a young girl in Fort Smith that occurred in a time frame around 1998-2004.


The rapes committed by Barraso allegedly was ongoing from the time the victim was five years old until she was eleven years old when it was reported. 


A state arrest warrant was issued by the District Court of Sebastian County on November 30, 2004, after Barroso was charged with rape. Barroso was later charged federally with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution by the United States District Court, Western District of Arkansas, and a federal arrest warrant was issued on February 1, 2005.


It is thought that Barraso fled to Mexico to avoid prosecution. The Federal Bureau o Investigation believes he may be (or has been) in the Guadalajara, Mexico, area.


Barraso would be 47-years of age, stands 5'7" and weighed 150 pounds at the time he took flight He has black hair and rown eyes.


.His nationality is listed as Mexican and his race is listed as White/Hispanic.


Barroso has a scar on his left cheek near his mouth.
