In a news letter sent to families of students on Saturday, Fort Smith Catholic Schools (FSCS) has announced its plan to close all doors until further notice and did not guarantee a reopening date. The current situation will be reviewed at the end of the scheduled Spring Break.
The report reads,
Dear I.C. School Families,
Fort Smith Catholic Schools (FSCS) have made the decision to close schools effective Monday, March 16, 2020. This pandemic is an unprecedented event and your students’ health and education are our primary focus. The COVID-19 outbreak is a rapidly changing situation and we are committed to taking care of our Catholic school community and keeping you informed. At this time, we plan to review the situation and update you at the end of our scheduled spring break.
The decision to close was based on the following:
Bishop Taylor’s directives
The virus infects communities 14 days prior to confirmed cases
Best practices have proven that “social-distancing” is the most effective way to combat the spread of COVID-19
FSCS desire to be proactive in closing our schools to limit the infiltration of the virus.
Teachers will start alternative methods of instruction (AMI) on Monday, March 16, 2020. Christ the King, Immaculate Conception, and Trinity Junior High will be open from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Monday for students and parents to pick up books and any other items the students might need. If this time does not work for you, please contact your principal to make alternate arrangements. (Call/text Mrs. B at 479-414-4286 to schedule a time.)
Our love and commitment to our Catholic school community is why we are choosing to move to distance learning. Thank you for all you do for our FSCS community. We will continue to communicate with you and update you as the need occurs.
