Muskogee man feared dead after body found Monday evening

A silver alert has been cancelled for a Muskogee man after Police confirmed the recovery of a body. Clothing on the body matched the description of the man, however a positive identification has not yet been made.

According to reports, 78-year-old Gordon Lee Hughey was last seen near 412 North 12th Street in Muskogee around 7:45 a.m. Monday wearing a brown Carhart jacket, a black and red plaid shirt, denim jeans, and black cowboy boots. He has dementia and is considered to be in imminent danger of serious bodily injury or death.

On Monday evening, police confirmed a body had been found near the Ron-Co Plumbing yard, less than a mile away. Police had been conducting a grid search around the downtown Muskogee area at the time the body was found.

This is still a developing story at this time and we will release more information as it becomes available.
