Officials in Cherokee County dismiss rape charges after victim provides 'inconsistent testimony'

According to published news reports out of Cherokee County, a case agaist a man in a local rape accused of rape was dismissed in Cherokee County District Court last week just before this week's jury docket commenced.

Ronald Pillay, 57, was originally charged with first-degree rape and forcible sodomy after a woman told Cherokee County Sheriff's Office deputies that he forced her to perform oral sex on him, and then raped her on May 6. However, the charges were dropped due to inconsistent testimony by the victim.

After the woman told authorities Pillay had come to her residence, forced her to perform oral sex, and raped her, Pillay pleaded not guilty in the district court in late June.

According to officials, between the time the case was filed and the time the preliminary hearing was held, Pillay or his lawyer presented the woman with three or four affidavits that she signed, swearing multiple times that interactions between her and Pillay were consensual.

All charges were dropped in the case.
