Poteau woman drowns after driving vehicle into flooded creek in rural Leflore County

According to a report filed by Oklahoma Highway Patrol a Poteau woman  drowned after she drove her car into a flooded creek crossing and her vehicle was swept off the roadway.


Police say Vickie Darnell, 64, of Poteau died at approximately 4:27 Sunday morning in the incident, which occurred one mile north of State Highway 83 at Sugar Loaf Creek and approximately three miles south and six miles east of Poteau in LeFlore County.


Darnell's body was located just after 7 am and recovered by a emergency crews using an airboat.
