Springdale man arrested for Negligent Homicide, Battery in February wreck that killed infant


A traffic accident on February 13 that resulted in the death of a Springdale infant led to the the arrest this week of a 39-year-old Springdale man.


Albinta Binejal of Springdale with charged with negligent homicide and battery in the death of the infant and injuries to three other people.


Binejal was driving a 1999 Honda Accord east on Butterfield Coach Road on February 13 when he lost control of the vehicle and moved into the path of oncoming traffic. The Accord was hit by a Chevrolet pickup. A Honda Civic was also involved in the crash.

The infant, who was a passenger in the Civic, was airlifted to a hospital where it later died.


Two adults in the Civic, Ruby Quintana, 23, of Springdale and Guillermina Avina, 67, of Springdale as well as the driver of the pick-up, David Cook, 52, of Fayetteville were injured and treated at local hospitals.


Binejal blood sample was sent to the Arkansas Crime Lab and tested positive for both methamphetamine and amphetamine.


Binejal remains in the Washington County Detention Center where he was being held on a no-bond hold Tuesday evening.
