USAF veteran, former Sequoyah County narcotics investigator running for Leflore County Sheriff

Dwayne Frizzell, a decorated United States Air Force veteran and Sequoyah County deputy and narcotics lead investigator, has announced his bid to run as a Republican for the office of LeFlore County Sheriff in the upcoming election.

Frizzell, a graduate of Heavener High School who served in Dhaharan, Saudia Arabia, started his career in Law Enforcement at the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office as a jailerand eventually worked in CID and narcotics.

His campaign announcement is below:

"My name is Dwayne Frizzell, and I would like to formally announce my Republican candidacy for the upcoming 2020 Leflore County Sheriff election.  I have a very loving, caring, and supportive family.  My wife and I have been married for twelve years, and we have a beautiful 22-year-old daughter who is successful in her own right.

I was born and raised in Leflore County, and I am a graduate of Heavener High School.  After graduating high school, I joined and proudly served in the United States Air Force.  While serving in the military, I was fortunate to receive first-class training including Basic Military Training School, Security Police School, M-60 Gunner School, and Air Base Ground Defense School.  Additionally, I was able to receive the some of the highest training by some of the most elite instructors in the world.

The training I received allowed me to develop my leadership skills, taught me how to manage and protect personnel, and work effectively and efficiently while in the midst of extremely stressful situations.  I graduated ABD with honors, and I was awarded Honor Graduate by my instructors and peers.

For my first assignment, I was stationed at Griffis Airforce Base in Rome, New York.

I then received a temporary duty assignment to Dhaharan, Saudia Arabia.  While on temporary assignment, my duties were to protect the base as well as our flight lines.  For my service in Dhaharan, I was awarded the Southwest Asian Medal.

After my service in the military, I began a career in Law Enforcement at the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office as a jailer.  Through diligence and hard work, I advanced quickly within the department.

I promoted from jailer/detention officer to Patrol Deputy.

I worked effectively in my position as a Patrol Deputy for about a year and a half; during which time, I saw the successful conclusion of cases and the arrest and prosecution of numerous criminals.  I was then promoted to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) where I continued my career as a criminal investigator.

As an investigator, I was assigned all types of cases including theft/burglary, sexual assaults, domestic violence/abuse, assault and battery, and homicide.  It was through hard work, dedication, and teamwork that I was able to enjoy a very successful conviction rate of these crimes.

My last two years at the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office, I was promoted to Lead Investigator of the Narcotics Unit.  During this time, I was also commissioned with the District 27 Drug Task Force Unit by the Sequoyah County District Attorney.   I worked very closely with local, state, and federal agencies combatting the war on drugs.  My time working narcotics allowed me to gain even more training from both state and federal agencies.

As part of my assignment as a narcotics investigator, I wrote numerous search warrants that led to the arrests of numerous drug dealers as well as the confiscation of illegal narcotics, guns, and drug proceeds.  Through strong working relationships, I was able to see the successful prosecution of the majority of my cases.

My experience has also allowed me to take part in the budgeting process, and effectively manage funding and resources to run a financially stable department.  This is a skill set that I look forward to bringing to the Leflore County Sheriff’s Office.

As Sheriff of Leflore County, I will make it my priority to bring the Sheriff’s Department back to a department of honesty and integrity.  Our department will have an open door policy, so citizens can come into the office and actually speak to the Sheriff instead of being put off.  If you call and I’m there, I’ll answer the phone.  If I’m busy, and you have to leave a message, I will return your call promptly.

As your Sheriff, I will ensure that the deputies will be adequately trained and able to perform their duties the right way.  Deputies are a direct reflection of the Sheriff, and I will make sure they represent our department well with the pride they take in their work and in their appearance.

I have had several issues brought to my attention concerning the current department.  As your Sheriff, I will work diligently to address these various problems.  Citizens have brought concerns to me about the response to calls to drugs and thefts within the county.  Many citizens of our great county have voiced the need for a change.  To all of you, I say that if you vote for me in the upcoming election, that desired change will begin.  In contrast, my opponents are not a change.

They have been a part of the same broken system we have had here for years.  As I enter into this election, the only promises I make are to the citizens of Leflore County.  A promise of something better than what we’ve had.  A promise to raise the bar and make a change for the better.   I respectfully ask for you to vote for Dwayne Frizzell for Leflore County Sheriff, 2020.

Additionally, I would like to thank my family, friends, and supporters for all the encouragement and support they have given me.

Vote Frizzell."
