Cold Case Revisited: Who killed United States military veteran Buddy Williams?

Updated: Jul 21, 2020

On February 9, 2006, Army Veteran George “Buddy” Williams was brutally beaten and stabbed in his own home in the 1800 block of North 9th Street in Fort Smith.

There was no forced entry and a kitchen knife was found with a bent handle that was thought to be the murder weapon. There were no viable prints recovered from the knife and the only item that was reported missing was a VHS/ DVD player.

Around 1 a.m. Buddy's wife Phyllis returned home to find Buddy and called the police. There have been talks of suspects but nothing has panned out as of yet.

There was a report that someone may have seen a person on a bicycle with a similar DVD player under his arm riding in the same neighborhood earlier that night.

It has now been fourteen years and this family of a military veteran deserve to have answers. Mr. Williams did two tours in Vietnam while serving in the Army and also a tour in Desert Storm while serving in the National Guard.

Someone in this community knows something that could solve this horrific cold case.

We plead with you, if you know anything about this crime, please call the Fort Smith Police Department at 479-709-5100.
