Gunned downed in Hillsdale: Cara Davenport - March 26, 2000
On March 26, 2000 eighteen year old Cara Davenport, a recent high school graduate and a cheerleader for the St. Louis Storm minor league soccer team, was shot to death at 7:30 pm at the 6100 block of Greer Avenue in St. Louis.
She had been sitting in the back seat of a friend’s car that was parked outside an apartment complex in the Hillsdale neighborhood when two men approached and fired into the car.
Two other men that been in the car, a 1983 brown Pontiac, were wounded but the pretty and vivacious Davenport was declared dead at the scene.
The two men survived the shooting but were both murdered later on. Six months after Cara's death, James Rossell was shot and killed in Wellston. No one was arrested.
In 2006, Tyrease Edwards was also shot in Wellston.
A man named Travion Williams pled guilty to murdering Edwards. Police believe it had something to do with a dispute over narcotics. No one who has worked the case in the intervening years has been able to tie Williams to the death of Rossell or Davenport.
