The 1974 shooting death of Jesse Garcia in San Antonio remains an active case for law enforcement

Updated: Aug 2, 2020

On Saturday, November 16, 1974, Jesse Garcia's wife heard what sounded like three gunshots and a car door slam in front of their home at 440 S. Frio in San Antonio, Texas.

Shortly after that, she heard her front door open and then heard a groan. When she went to the front door to see what was going on she found her husband, Jesse Garcia, lying on the sidewalk, shot.

Mrs. Garcia went to a neighbor for help, and as she was going to the neighbor's house she saw the shadow of an unknown man walk off. EMS arrived and transported Jesse Garcia to Baptist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Jesse Garcia was 28 years old at the time of his death.

Over the years several leads have been investigated and suspects developed, but not enough evidence has been found to file a case against anyone.

Detectives at the time of the crime were able to trace Jesse Garcia's location prior to the shooting to a lounge called the "Stands", located in the 600 block of W. Durango.
