On June 25, 2016, 57-year-old Lori J. Heimer was brutally murdered in her home at 10525 South Hopkins Road, just outside of Assaria, in rural Saline County., Kansas. Her body was found by a family member shortly before 8 p.m. that evening.
At the time of her death, Heimer maintained a dog breeding business at her home named “Lori’s Poodle Patch”, and was known to advertise her business as far away as Wichita and Kansas City.
Heimer sold a variety of dogs including poodles, teacup poodles, toy poodles, yorkiepoos, and golden doodles. On June 25, Heimer had mentioned to her husband that she was expecting a possible customer that particular afternoon.
Heimer’s family told investigators that an unidentified man showed up unannounced at the Heimer home around one week before she was murdered.
According to family accounts, Lori politely, yet firmly had asked the stranger to schedule an actual appointment. Lori apparently had intended to meet with someone, perhaps even the same individual, to display her poodles at around 5:30 p.m. on June 25. Lori’s body was found at approximately 7:45 p.m. that evening.
During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that two vehicles of interest has been in the vicinity of Lori’s home around the time she was murdered.
Vehicle #1 was said to be an older flatbed pickup truck, possibly a Chevrolet, which is described as “beat-up”, maroon in color with a white front bumper, silver grill and wide-style side mirrors. The driver was described as a man who was 50 years of age or older with “salt and pepper” hair.
Vehicle #2 was an older-style, small pickup truck, possibly a Chevrolet S-10 with a two-tone paint job (dark blue on top and bottom with light blue in the middle), a silver back bumper, and a newer, blue tailgate that appeared to have minimal damage when compared to the body of the truck.
The remainder of the vehicle is described as “beat up” and “scratched up”. There may have been two animal cages or crates in the back. The driver of this second vehicle was described as a white male, approximately 40 years of age with shoulder-length hair and wearing glasses.
Investigators have said they would like to locate these two vehicles. They would also like to speak to anyone that had any contact or a business appointment with Heimer at any time between June 20 and June 25, 2016.
A reward of $37,500 is currently being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this case.
Authorities encourage anyone with information, no matter how small it might be, to come forward.
