White County , Arkansas officials still baffled by 2011 death of Searcy resident Kimberly Steele

On Sept 14, 2011, White County Sheriff's Deputies responded to Kimberly Steele's (aka Kimberly Thomas) residence at 123 Town & Country Lane for a structure fire. 


The fire was called in by a neighbor and it was determined by firefighters to have been set in multiple places. 


Witnesses in the area said that they saw a small blue car leaving Kimberly's home shortly before the flames were seen. 


The next day, Kimberly Steele was reported missing by her parents who said that the last time they spoke with her was on September 12, 2011. 


A deputy spokesperson said evidence was likely destroyed. Two dogs were killed in the fire.

On Sunday September 18, Prairie County Sheriff's Office were notified by hunters they had found the body of a badly burned woman in the Cache River Refuge. The body was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for identification.


The Arkansas State Medical Examiner determined that Kimberly's death was a homicide from a gunshot wound to her head.
