Who attacked the elderly Kansas couple in their own home in September, 2000?

Raymond and Mabel Aguirre were married in 1940 and at the age of 82 and 80 respectively in 2000 were living out their twilight years in retirement on a sleepy little road in Topeka.

Police said the Aguirres were returning to their home at 1900 S.E. Washington in September 2000 when they encountered an intruder, who beat them so badly they were unable to call for help, then left them for dead. The intruder used Mabel Aguirre’s walking cane to strike her. He robbed the couple of property, including checks.

The couple’s son found them lying unconscious in pools of blood.

Raymond Aguirre died the following month at age 82 of injuries suffered in the beating. Mabel Aguirre, then 80, lost her sight in one eye.

The suspect, a black male, late teens to early 20's, 5 foot 8 inches. 160 pounds, with a short afro, little or no facial hair, wearing a red sweater with white collar, entered the residence through a bathroom window.

A $5,000 Governor's Reward has been issued for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person committing these crimes.
