Young Lion squad set for two games in home Holiday Classic at Stubblefield




After more than a week-long layoff because of final exams, the UAFS men's basketball team will return to action this week when it hosts the UAFS Holiday Classic on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Stubblefield Center. The Lions (4-7) will play the Cameron Aggies at 7 p.m. on Tuesday and will play the Wisconsin-Parkside Rangers at 5 p.m. on Wednesday. Both games will be broadcast on KHGG-FM 101.1 and KHGG-AM 1580, and live statistics and live stream will be available. In other classic games, Rogers State will play Wisconsin-Parkside at 5 p.m. on Tuesday and will play Cameron at 3 p.m. on Wednesday. UAFS last played on Wednesday, Dec. 5, when the Lions lost the Arkansas-Monticello Boll Weevils 69-59 at the Stubblefield Center. The Lions were scheduled to play the Randall Saints at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, but that game was rescheduled because of forecasted inclement weather. That game will now be played on Monday, Jan. 7, at 7 p.m. at the Stubblefield Center. The Lions average 74 points per game with four players averaging double-figure in scoring – senior guard Chris Crawford (16.8 ppg), junior guard Seth Hawley (13.2 ppg), freshman forward David Ward (11.5 ppg) and junior guard Tyler Williams (10.8 ppg). Crawford leads the team in assists (3.9 apg). UAFS averages 35 rebounds per game – about five less than its opponents – and Ward leads the team in rebounds (6.1 rpg). The Lions allow 74 points per game and force 14 turnovers per game. Crawford leads the team in steals (1.7 spg), and junior forward Matt Morgan leads the team in blocked shots (2.2 bpg). It will be the second game of the season between UAFS and Cameron. The Lions beat the Aggies 83-75 on Nov. 27 at Aggie Gym in Lawton, Okla. The Aggies (3-6) snapped a four-game losing streak on Saturday with an 88-77 win against the Lubbock Christian Chaps at Aggie Gym. Lubbock Christian is the lone common opponent between UAFS and Cameron. UAFS lost to Lubbock Christian 82-69 on Dec. 1 at the Stubblefield Center, while Cameron split its regular-season series with Lubbock Christian, losing 75-67 on Nov. 17 at the Rip Griffin Center in Lubbock, Texas. Cameron averages 81 points per game with three players averaging double-figures in scoring – senior guard Zach Dumas (19.6 ppg), senior guard Tyus Momoh (12.4 ppg) and junior guard Johann Tate (11.3 ppg). Momoh leads the team in assists (4.1 apg). Opponents out-rebound the Aggies by almost two rebounds per game (37.7-36.3), and junior forward Jalen Nicholas leads the team in rebounding (4.7 rpg) The Aggies allow 83 points per game and force 16 turnovers per game. Dumas leads the team in steals (2.2 spg), and freshman forward Dalton Vinson leads the team in blocked shots (0.7 bpg).
