

On Friday, August 15, 2003, at approximately 6:00am, a man armed with a handgun attempted to rob the Apple Market Grocery store in Westwood, Kansas at 4701 Mission Road in Northeast Johnson County.

The suspect was described as about 5'5", thin build, wearing a black hat, fake beard pulled up high on his face, a black medium length coat and blank pants.
The suspect grabbed a female cashier from behind causing her to scream out for help.
Store manager David "Ray" Ninemire, who was working in the Produce Department ran to the aid of the fellow employee at the front of the store and encountered the armed subject.

The subject shot Ray in the leg, and then calmly walked towards the exit doors where he shot a customer entering the store.
Ray bled out because a major artery was hit when he was shot by the robber.

The killer was last seen walking east from the store along West 47th Street and then north on Lloyd Street into Kansas City, Kansas.
Years later Ray Ninemire's murder remains unsolved.
Law Enforcement continues to investigate and seek help from the community in an effort to bring Ray Ninemire's killer to justice and closure for Ray's Family.
